Honouring Dr. Jagdeep Walia

Supporting the future of gene and gene-modified cell therapy in Canada.

In memory of Dr. Jagdeep Walia, we invite you to support the Canadian Gene and Cell Therapy community and help carry forward his vision of bringing life-changing therapies to patients.

Remembering Jagdeep

Dr. Jagdeep Walia was a valued member of Canada's gene therapy community, a dedicated physician-scientist, entrepreneur and a passionate advocate for patients and families affected by genetic diseases.

As a medical geneticist and professor at Queen's University, Jagdeep devoted his career to understanding rare genetic disorders and advancing innovative treatments, particularly gene therapies for children with devastating neurological conditions. Beyond his scientific and clinical contributions, he believed deeply in the power of collaboration, bringing together researchers, clinicians, developers, families, and patient organizations to accelerate progress.

Jagdeep was one of the key drivers behind starting the Canadian Association for Gene and Cell Therapy (CANGCT), sharing its vision of a stronger, more connected Canadian community working together to bring transformative treatments to patients in Canada and globally.

About CANGCT

The Canadian Association for Gene and Cell Therapy (CANGCT) is a growing national effort to unite and strengthen Canada's gene and gene-modified cell therapy ecosystem.

More than our inaugural conference, CANGCT is about building a lasting community that connects researchers, clinicians, biotechnology companies, manufacturers, patient organizations, and other partners across Canada and internationally.

Our mission is to foster collaboration, share knowledge, support the next generation of scientists, and accelerate the development and accessibility of innovative gene and cell therapies. By connecting Canada's scientific excellence with the resources, expertise, and partnerships needed to translate discoveries into treatments, we aim to improve the lives of patients in Canada and around the world.

Continue Jagdeep's Legacy

Donations made in Jagdeep's memory will support CANGCT's ongoing efforts to build and connect Canada's gene and gene-modified cell therapy community and bring Canada's efforts onto the global stage.

Your contribution will help foster scientific exchange, strengthen collaborations, engage emerging researchers, and advance the collective effort to bring promising therapies closer to patients.

Through this work, we hope to honour Jagdeep's commitment to building a strong, collaborative and vibrant gene and cell therapy community, and the families whose lives may be transformed by new gene and cell therapy.

Together, we can carry forward his legacy and help build a future where innovative therapies reach the patients who need them.
