The mandate of this Core is to foster relationships between MICYRN and other existing and emerging perinatal, neonatal, child and youth health research teams, networks, and organizations across the country. This will enable new Canadian research capacity by linking existing infrastructure and expertise and minimizing resource duplication. MICYRN is committed to continuously strengthen our multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach.

As we build relationships and develop collaborations, we will incorporate the strengths and expertise of our partners into the MICYRN Cores. The Cores will in turn provide this combined knowledge and experience through our infrastructure to those wishing to augment their projects in a specific discipline – e.g. KT – and to newly formed research teams. Due to our extensive membership from diverse disciplines and our national connections, MICYRN will be highly responsive to innovations in treatment and research methodology. The value-added of this network is our ability to deliver rapid and efficient linking of disciplines, new methods, and new technologies to give Canadians a maternal and child health research infrastructure that can quickly assess potential treatments and diagnostic tools. Through collaboration MICYRN will increase the quality and quantity of clinical research conducted in Canada. Through shared infrastructure and knowledge, MICYRN will hasten initiation of new studies, conserve and enhance intellectual and physical resources, encourage multi-disciplinary connections, and identify and support research in priority areas of maternal, infant, child, and youth health.

Report to MICYRN: Planning Workshop for Canadian Birth Cohort Research Network, April 2009

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), in partnership with the Maternal, Infant, Child and Youth Research Network (MICYRN) and the Strategic Knowledge Cluster on Early Childhood Development (SKC-ECD), has compiled an Inventory of Pregnancy and Birth Cohort studies in Canada. The inventory lists Canadian cohort studies that are completed, ongoing, or in development. It provides detailed information on the content and design of such studies, and compares features amongst studies to facilitate both national and international comparisons. This initial version provides information on over 45 studies.
