A. Create an organizational vehicle to engage key stakeholders |
- Define the organizational hierarchy, membership and affiliations
- Establish the legal and charitable status
- Determine key standing committees and working groups

| B. Create a communication strategy to link and inform |
- Build the Coordinating Centre to link sites nationally and beyond
- Develop role of “site correspondents” who support networks and multicentre studies, and relay info to/from Coordinating Centre
- Expand website to showcase reports, reviews and inventories; and provide member working space
- Provide regular progress reports by the Newsletter
- Conduct site visits by MICYRN leadership
- Hold regular conference calls with executive and working group committees

- Create analytic and logistic capacity to support decision making
- Project manager(s) track and promote progress on initiatives

| D. Develop funding |
- Promote support for MICYRN in existing site research budgets
- Use MICYRN funds to leverage proposals to traditional funding sources

| II. Enhance productivity of the mother-infant-child-youth research community |
A. Sustain and augment collaborative research networks and networking activities |
- Identify existing networks
- Determine multicentre research activities
- Support development of new networks
- Identify opportunities for joint ventures
- Promote good team relationships

| B. Develop key methodology- technology platforms |
- Determine areas of common need and identify opportunities to reduce duplication of effort and create best practices

| C. Reduce impediments to multicentre research activity |
- Work towards efficient multi-jurisdictional REB review of maternal-child research proposals
- Work towards timely multi-site negotiation of clinical trials contracts

| III. Enhance the quality and safety of maternal-child research activities |
A. Build human resource capacity |
- Determine and augment opportunities for training and continuous professional development
- Promote funding models to ensure sufficient protected, non-clinical time for investigators
- Promote funding models to recruit and retain highly qualified core staff

| B. Promote standards and best practices |
- Provide access to existing standards
- Create opportunities to develop standards and to share best practices
